많은 국내외 공연 및 페스티벌을 성공적으로 개최한 ‘비스킷 타운’이 올 가을 다년간의 경험과 축적된 노하우를 바탕으로 브랜드 페스티벌 ‘브라운슈가도넛 2023’을 개최합니다. ‘브라운슈가도넛 2023’은 음악적 특색을 잃은 인기 아티스트 위주의 라인업을 지양하며 재즈, 알앤비, 소울, 펑크, 힙합, 블루스까지, 흑인음악 장르 안에서 탁월한 실력과 음악성, 개성을 드러내는 국내외 뮤지션들을 음악 팬들에게 선보입니다. 
 
공연이 개최되는 provoke Seoul은 영등포의 옛 밀가루 공장입니다. 1936년에 지어진 이 공장은 먹을 것이 가장 중요했던 시절, 밀가루를 생산하던 곳으로, 멈추지 않던 기계 소리와 노동자의 활기로 가득 찼던 공간입니다.  
 
80여년 된 기존 공장건물을 최대한 활용하고 공간이 가진 스토리에 다양한 콘텐츠를 접목해 '가치 중심'의 재생 공간으로 부활한 provoke Seoul은 폐쇄된 화력발전소가 현대미술관이 된 런던의 '테이트 모던(Tate Modern)', 옛 맥주 양조장을 복합문화시설로 재탄생한 베를린의 '쿨투어 브라우어라이(Kultur Brauerei)'처럼 오래된 공간의 재창조를 통해 일대에 문화 인프라를 확충하겠다는 비전을 가지고 있습니다.
 
‘브라운슈가도넛 2023’은 음악적 내실이 가득할 뿐만 아니라 음악과 함께 즐길 거리가 가득한 페스티벌입니다. provoke Seoul이라는 개성 있는 공간에서 실내형, 야외형 두 가지의 특색있는 무대를 통해  공간이 가진 개성과 흑인 음악 장르 특유의 바이브가 시너지를 내는 음악 축제가 될 것입니다.
 
그 첫 번째 시작을 함께할 헤드라이너 아티스트로 스탄 게츠의 후반기 음악세계를 더욱 아름답고 풍성하게 만들어주었으며 유려하고 기품 있는 피아니즘으로 여러 젊은 후배 연주자들에게 존경 받는 거장, 재즈 피아니스트 캐니 배런과 
 
그의 후계자격으로 출중한 스윙감과 정돈된 피아니즘을 갖고 있는 베니 그린, 
 
여기에 혁신적인 사운드와 비트, 음악 스타일로 재즈는 물론, 아프리카 음악에서부터  힙합, 록, 일렉트로닉에 이르는 다채로운 음악 요소를 포괄하는 트럼페터 크리스찬 스콧 아툰데 아주어가 처음 내한하며 함께 합니다. 특히 케니 배런은 국내에선 처음으로 피아노 독주 무대를 갖는데, 이번 내한 공연에서 베니 그린과 함께 깜짝 스페셜 이벤트로 두 사람의 듀오 무대를 준비 중이어서 음악 팬들에겐 보기드문 즐거움을 선사할 수 있을 것으로 기대됩니다. 
 
존경받는 거장에서부터 이제 갓 이름을 알리기 시작한 신인들에 이르기까지 실력과 재능을 갖춘 아티스트들로 선정한 라인업과 히스토리와 비전을 품은 핫플레이스의 만남은 올가을, 음악 팬들에게 선사하는 가장 강력한 이벤트가 될 것입니다. 
 
‘Biscuit Town’, the performance organizer that has successfully produced and managed numerous concerts and festivals inside and outside of South Korea since its foundation in 2016, will host its own-brand festival ‘Brown Sugar Donut’ this fall, with its years of experience and accumulated know-how. ‘Brown Sugar Donut’ tries to get away from lineups of “just popular artists” who no longer possess distinct feature in their artistry, and make sure to present musicians that shows outstanding skills, musicality, and uniqueness in the in the genre of black music(including jazz, R&B, soul, funk, hip-hop, and blues) to music fans,
 
The concert venue, ‘provoke Seoul’ used to be flour mill factory. Built during the Japanese colonial era, this factory was a place where flour was produced when food was the most important, and it was always filled with the non-stop sound of machines and the vitality of workers. 
 
Through the re-creation of old space, we try to fulfill our vision of expanding cultural infrastructure just as 'Tate Modern' in London, where a closed thermal power plant became a contemporary art museum, and 'Kultur Brauerei' in Berlin, where an old beer brewery was reborn as a complex cultural facility. We have a vision to expand cultural infrastructure in the area.
 
‘Brown Sugar Donut 2023’ is a festival not just of quality music, it also includes a lot of fun activities. In such a unique space called ‘provoke Seoul’, the distinct features of the space and the unique vibe of black music will create synergy and you will be able to enjoy the festival through two types of stage setup(indoor and outdoor)
 
As a headliner, jazz pianist Kenny Barron, a maestro widely respected by many young players for his graceful and elgant pianism, who also made Stan Getz’s later years of music more beautiful and richer will come to perform in Korea, alongside with Benny Green, the successor of Kenny Barron, who has an excellent sense of swing and well-organized pianism, and Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, a trumpeter with a wide musical variety ranging from African music, hip-hop, rock, electronic and jazz filled with innovative sounds, beats and musical styles.
 
From respected masters to rookies who are just starting to make their names known, the lineup is full of artists with skills and talents. Plus the special place with history and vision will present the most powerful event to music fans this fall.
